Expert Speaker:

Heather Bennett, Duke University, is the Director of Development for the Duke Parents Program. She has 18 years of development experience, including serving as the Director of the Young Alumni Program for 12 years. In that role, she oversaw all efforts to engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward the 15 youngest undergraduate alumni classes as well as the senior gift campaign and student education. This included the development and expansion of regional young alumni leadership councils, setting records for the 5th and 10th reunion campaigns, planning and executing young alumni events, and directing the senior gift.

  • Currently, Heather oversees all fundraising efforts to raise unrestricted donations ($5.1 million in FY14) from non-alumni parents through the Parents Program. The program's success is driven by
the dedication and generosity of the Parents Committee, which is comprised of 465 parents.
  • In addition, she coordinates the non-alumni parent giving effort as part of Duke University's $3.25 billion comprehensive campaign. Heather has worked with the Duke Annual Fund since 2000.
  • Previously, she was the Director of Major Gifts at the Nicholas School of Environment and a Senior Prospect Researcher at Duke University. She graduated from Duke in 1996 with an AB in Public
Policy Studies and is a native of Charlotte, NC.
