Sheila Sokolowski
Sheila focuses her practice on business and regulatory issues affecting the health care
industry. She advises clients across a broad spectrum of the health care industry concerning
federal and state law governing the delivery of health care services and products, including
the Stark Law, the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, state and federal false claims acts and
HIPAA/HITECH.
  • Ms. Sokolowski joined Hogan Marren in 2010 and is the creator and host of HIPAA
    Bytes, a series of podcasts addressing specific issues raised by the HIPAA privacy,
    security and breach notification regulations and providing practical guidance for
    compliance.
  • Ms. Sokolowski regularly advises academic medical centers and health systems
    on a variety of regulatory matters affecting operations, including: emergency treatment
    and transfers; patient safety; peer review and credentialing; professional scope of practice;
    charity care; Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and appeals; and facility licensing
    and certification requirements.
  • She also conducts internal investigations of allegations of violations of the Stark Law,
    the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, and state and federal false claims acts
