In 10 days, Sue Dill Calloway will guide you through ACA Section 1557.

Healthcare providers including hospitals, physicians, home health agencies, nursing homes and other covered entities operating a healthcare program are required to comply with the anti-discrimination requirements in Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act. This law is the first to prohibit discrimination based on sex, which includes gender and gender identity. Hospitals will need to write a policy, train their staff, revise their patient rights statement, post new signs, have qualified interpreters and assign someone to handle nondiscrimination complaints. CMS is also proposing changes to the Conditions of Participation to align with Section 1557 making it imperative to update your policies now to ensure compliance and avoid legal trouble and penalties.

  • What is Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and who must comply?
  • Requirements of Section 1557: How to ensure legal compliance
  • How to meet the education requirements for your staff
